Skydive Australia – Melbourne

There are actually a few things in life that frightens me. Well, if you filter out legged insects from the equation… and err anything unfamiliar… and scary. Ok. Perhaps, there’s more than a few. But heights, I believe, is one of my biggest fears. Plus, I always thought I have this motion sickness (that really doesn’t exist).

Yet I kind of like scaring myself sometimes. Haha! I’ve wanted to go skydiving for so long now so when the opportunity came up, I wasted no chance!

I was scheduled to skydive on a Friday, but it rained and the dives for the entire day has been cancelled. I was a bit worried since we are flying back to Singapore on the Sunday.

Fortunately, the sun showed up the following day, contrary to the forecast that it will be raining for the rest of the weekend. I was so excited that it’s finally happening! I’m a big believer that things happen when they are meant to. Haha! Yay!

1aSitting on a helicopter is TOTALLY different from sitting on an airplane. Why did nobody tell me?? During take off, I almost cried in fear for my life.

Trying my best to just admire the beautiful horizon below me. First helicopter ride @ berna wandersAt one point, the instructors started mumbling technical jargons. Then I heard the magic words – 14,000 feet. Oh no! Suddenly, the idea of jumping from this height became so real. Blood rushed through my head and next thing I knew, the tandems in front of me was jumping out of the plane one by one.

I asked my instructor, “Is it happening that fast??” He answered, “Nope!”, then pushed me forward. In a matter of two seconds my feet were hanging on the air, and I was literally on top of the world.MA BERNARDITA 0098Skydiving jump position @ berna wanders

The next ten seconds were probably the longest ten seconds of my life. Cliche, I know. But all I could ever think was, when is this going to end?? I felt sick in my stomach and my heart seemed like it wasn’t in the proper place. Where can it possibly go!

This is happening perhaps twenty seconds into the fall. I think I kinda forced myself to get my wits back together to enjoy the view.MA BERNARDITA 01361cMA BERNARDITA 01601d1eI’d say that was an exhilarating burst of adrenaline. But once you get past this initial rush, you will be welcomed with a view so awesome, you just can’t keep your mouth from opening in admiration.1fMA BERNARDITA 0204MA BERNARDITA 0225MA BERNARDITA 0221MA BERNARDITA 0233That was the smoothest landing I’ve ever experienced too. I thought of something like gliding into wet soil and possibly injuring myself so I raised my legs as high as I could. But when my bottom hit the surface, it stayed in the same place until i moved myself. Haha!

Gladly, my instructor was super talkative and energetic it really helped to relax me. It’s just reassuring to know that you are in the hands of well-trained professionals who also aims to make this experience not just a memorable but more importantly a joyful one for you.

For first time skydivers, I highly suggest getting the photos and videos with the package. It might cost you a bit of fortune, but nothing really replaces the memories it captures.

And I’m a certified skydiver! Yippee!

Convinced to do your first skydive soon? 🙂
